Rami Tzafriri, PhD – Director of Research and Innovation, CBSET, Boston USA

Dr. Rami Tzafriri is the Director of Research and Innovation at CBSET, an AAALAC-accredited, GLP compliant, animal Contract Research Institution dedicated to supporting and accelerating the advancement of novel therapeutics, devices, and procedures through ongoing collaboration between R&D researchers, the institute’s scientific staff, and key opinion-leader physicians and scientists. Rami also directs CBSET’s internship and fellowship programs dedicated to training the next generation of interdisciplinary transnational researchers.

Dr. Tzafriri received his PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem for his research on biodegradable controlled release devices and their use in the treatment of gingivitis and mammary tumors. He later held a postdoctoral research position at Elazer Edelman’s Harvard-MIT Biomedical Engineering Center, with a focus on the development of ex-vivo and computational models to examine how blood flow and receptor-ligand interactions affect drug distribution in arteries and in the myocardium.

He is a recognized leader in local vascular drug delivery where under his guidance CBSET spearheaded the development of experimental methods for visualizing vessel preparation effects and drug distribution after DCB and DES treatments and computational models by which to predict and optimize these processes. Similarly, his team at CBSET provided influential insights into the procedural and anatomic dependencies of sympathetic denervation therapies through the integration of in quantitative in vivo imaging, histopathology and bioanalytical readouts with computational bioheat modeling.
